Stock Effluent Disposal Facilities

The Practical Guide for Stock Truck Effluent Disposal from Trucks assists investigators and designers in how and where to establish stock truck effluent disposal sites, in particular in-transit sites located along or adjacent to state highways.

The first sections cover the planning and consent issues including site approval, funding and subsidies, and assessment of environmental effects.  The next sections deal with the design of the effluent disposal area, with real-life diagrams included in hard and electronic copy.  The preferred design is for a disposal site with two receptors to enable the truck driver to empty both holding tanks at the same time. The document also includes typical documents for consents purposes (so that an authority does not have to reinvent any documentation), and photographs of some of the existing disposal sites around the country.

The document is now in its third edition.  Hard copies of the document, including a CD with diagrams and photgraphs in electronic form, are available from stockeffluent@rcaforum.co.nz

Since the Guidelines were published, the South Taranaki District Council has changed the way it disposes of effluent collected at the Waverley Disposal Site.  They have kindly shared a copy of the new plans.
