Presentations of Stormwater Group

The Stormwater Group was invited to present an overview of its activities to the Stormwater Workshop hosted by ARC on 22 July 2010.  The Group used the opportunity to give an explanation of the roles of the RCA Forum and the Stormwater Group, and to challenge the assumption that the number of vehicles on a road can be used as any sort of proxy for the level of contaminants likely to be found in the road runoff.  In very few instances will road runoff not contain stormwater channelled from adjacent properties and the surfaces and use made of those properties can significantly affect the contaminant loads within stormwater.  The need to ensure that management of stormwater and road runoff remains based on sound research and identified risk is a current focus of the Group.

The presentation slides and the full notes for the presentation can be downloaded below.

The Group has been part of the steering group for NIWA research in Auckland involving a road runoff sampling programme and an evaluation of several common treatment methods.  Jonathan Moores of NIWA presented the results to a group of stormwater and roading practitioners in Wellington on 25 March 2010 at NZTA National Office and at the NIWA Christchurch offices at 10 Kyle Street, Riccaton, on 4 May 2010.

The slides supporting Jonathan's presentation may be downloaded here, providing a summary of the research study, results and conclusions.  The full research report has been published by NZTA and may be accessed at www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/research/reports/395
