Integrated Overweight Permit Review Group

This Group was established in 2002 to investigate the possibility of having all overweight permitting done by one organisation in New Zealand regardless of the route followed by the load. In other words there would be a "one stop shop" for all operators to secure permits whether the load might traverse state highways and/or local roads.  Membership comprised representatives of seven local authorities, Transit New Zealand and Transit New Zealand's consultant.

Having developed the Terms of Reference,  and worked through a couple of case studies, Transit New Zealand agreed to develop a new software system called OPERMIT for the administration of overweight permits on state highways, as well as local roads and bridges.  The objective is to have a web-based process which adequately protects the road and bridge assets, and provides a high level of service to customers.

If you are interested in being included, or just want more information about the project, contact NZ Transport Agency's Project Manager, Lynn Sleath.
