Case studies
An extensive library of case studies in approaches to stormwater treatment has been developed through the LIUDD Research Programme and can be accessed by the external link to The Case Study Portal at Urban Design + Development.
Treatment techniques and devices were discussed in detail in the March 2008 workshops, with extensive illustrative examples of vegetative and non-vegetative responses.
The Waitangi Park case study shows the response of Wellington City Council to complex stormwater issues in the design of the waterfront between Te Papa and Mt Victoria in the inner city area.
An article by Rachel Macdonald in InRoads, August 2007, provides a useful introduction to responding to road run-off by decreasing imperviousness. Useful international links are also being identified and added to this page.
Several examples of the use of different proprietory treatment devices cover the use of treatment train approaches that support or incorporate elements of low impact design, as well as stand-alone solutions. Devices considered in the case studies include Hynds Up-flo filter, the Stormwater360 StormFilter and Enviropod, and the Maccaferri VersiTank and Megaflo ducting.
